How to Choose the Right Cannabis Vape for You

Selection of cannabis vape pens and cartridges

Why So Many People Are Switching to Vapes

Cannabis vapes have become one of the most popular product categories in the legal Canadian market. They are discreet, low-odor, and offer fast onset like smoking without the combustion. For new and experienced consumers alike, vapes can be a clean, controllable way to enjoy cannabis.

But walk into a Clarity Cannabis location and you will see dozens of options — 510 cartridges, all-in-one disposables, pod systems, and live-resin variants. Here is how to narrow it down.

510 Cartridges

The 510 cartridge is the most common format. It threads into a reusable battery — sometimes called a vape pen — and gives you the flexibility to swap strains without replacing the hardware. If you plan to vape often and want the best long-term value, a quality 510 battery plus rotating carts is hard to beat.

Look for batteries with adjustable voltage and a preheat function. Lower voltage preserves terpene flavour; higher voltage produces bigger draws.

Disposable Vape Pens

Disposables are all-in-one devices: battery, cartridge, and oil are sealed in a single unit you discard when it is empty. They are perfect for travel, occasional use, or if you simply do not want to deal with hardware. The trade-off is cost-per-gram and recyclability — most BC retailers, including Clarity, accept used vape hardware for proper recycling.

Pod Systems

Pod systems sit between 510 carts and disposables. The battery is reusable but the pods are proprietary to that brand. Pods often run at lower temperatures, which can produce a smoother, more flavourful draw — particularly with live-resin oils.

Distillate vs. Live Resin vs. Rosin

Distillate is a highly refined oil, often with botanical or cannabis-derived terpenes added back in. It is potent, smooth, and budget-friendly.

Live resin is made from flash-frozen flower, preserving more of the original terpene profile. Expect a more complex, strain-true flavour at a higher price point.

Rosin is solventless — extracted with heat and pressure rather than chemicals. It is the cleanest option and often the most flavourful, but it commands a premium.

What to Look for on the Label

BC packaging makes it easy to compare products. Check the THC and CBD percentages, the extraction method, and whether terpenes are cannabis-derived or botanical. If you care about full-spectrum effects, look for "live resin" or "full spectrum" on the package, and a terpene content of 5% or higher.

Our budtenders at every Clarity Cannabis location are happy to walk you through the options — there is no wrong starting point. Try a low-cost distillate to find the strain you like, then upgrade to live resin or rosin once you know your preferences.
